broken again 04:27
one day it will come the naked truth for all this is plain and bright the great dive in the dark one day it’s here this was meant to be when we hit the ground this pain is obscene for everyone around yet, i can’t cope do you think i should let go everything i wanna know as we grow it can’t be worse or should we see life as a curse i could spend my time alone build myself a shell to rest but hell is what we truly own with those wounds we can’t reject don’t forget to talk to me cause my lack of sleep and appetite is just for you who can’t decide if it’s really worth saving ourselves, yeah would you love me if i took the risk to love you despite the hurt deep inside would you take it too don’t forget to talk to me cause my lack of sleep and appetite is just for you who can’t decide if it’s really worth saving ourselves, yeah and don’t forget to hold me tight my lack of calm and confidence is just for you who can’t decide if it’s really worth loving ourselves when i’m broken broken again

my heart is nothing more than a rusty box filled with photographs that ache at every mistake nothing more than that my faith is a trap nothing else makes me this frail will i ever see you fail nothing else will stay but a rusty box no one else survives the shades in your eyes i believe there’s no solace for those born without your grace my face is nothing more than a barren land cursed by your ghost who can’t leave when i’m still deceived no one else to blame your love was a fake nothing more than that, baby will i ever see your shame where did you take it away yeah, where did you take it away oh, where did you take it away where did you take it away why did you take it away this air i was meant to breathe oh, why did you take it away this dream i was meant to live no, there’s nothing, nothing i want wanna keep from you there’s nothing but a rusty, rusty box no, there’s nothing, nothing i want wanna keep from you there’s nothing, nothing but a rusty box

about

Rosalyn was born right after the release of « Heiligenstadt », The View Electrical’s sophomore album. Frédéric Aellen (vocals/guitar) immediately felt the urge to start something different, more acoustic and intimistic, closely related to his early demos. It goes without saying our slowcore Stakhanovist is always left hungering for more ! « I started to make music, at home, with my guitar and a laptop as sole companions. The discovery of the software Garageband was crucial, some kind of palliative care, as I couldn’t find fellow musicians who would be motivated enough to put together a real band made of those who know what dedication and serious work mean – my dream, my obsession since the overwhelming emotions caused by Nirvana in 92. » Thus, instead of pointlessly waiting for some potential gig offers, Frédéric Aellen, whose day job involves teaching pre-teens, left the business imperatives aside and, once again, locked himself away in the No Sun studio during the whole summer with his long-time collaborator Raul Bortolotti (Abraham, Kruger, Orso, The View Electrical) at the controls. As a result, no less than sixteen sensitive tracks, minutely crafted with the kind help of the string trio Betty’s Kitchen and multi-instrumentalist Adriel Rüfenacht (piano), everything mixed and mastered in London by Kenny Jones (Bauhaus, Dead Can Dance, The God Machine, The Smiths, Sophia).

« When I figured out that all these songs actually focus on some traumatic female figures, I (naively maybe) thought that a female name for this solo project should allow me to come to terms with my sentimental failures, while putting into perspective all those women who left a scar. » Rosalyn : a hair of the dog that bit you ? If this chosen name automatically reminds of his first album (« Roseland » by The View Electrical), much less delicate are the stories told here by Frédéric Aellen : a bitterness you can almost touch in « Single Mother » which depicts (and mocks) the sheer refusal of a rendezvous, when another Tinder match, wholly superficial on every level, realizes that her potential date does not own a vehicle… Then the tone gets heavier, incomprehension drastically increasing with the unacceptable death of a former colleague and young mother who passed away from an aneurysm, a brutally vivid memento mori (« Laure »). While « Rusty », even if it sounds like an old crooning Hollywood « love song », is mainly about the absolute rejection of the loved one (« No, there’s nothing I wanna keep from you. »), precisely when the person who was unceremoniously dumped still has to reclaim his belongings, a vulgar stack of clothes displayed on the kitchen table where we will never share a meal again…

No doubt that the partisans of the incandescent rock distilled by The View Electrical will be quite surprised with these four songs featuring on « Single Mother », first apparitions in Rosalyn’s haunted house. However, the fans of nostalgic and mesmerizing guitars can already rejoice : the album « All Your Silences » will be out March 1st 2019.
